František Suchý (père)

Né en juin 1899, František Suchý est devenu une figure reconnue de la résistance contre les régimes nazi et communiste en Tchécoslovaquie. En 1932, il prend la direction du crématorium de Strašnice, situé à l’est de Prague. Pendant l’occupation nazie lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il est responsable de la crémation des corps des victimes du régime, en majorité des prisonniers exécutés dans des camps de concentration comme celui de Hradištko. Bravant les ordres nazis de remettre aux autorités allemandes les registres officiels des victimes, il met sa vie et celle de sa famille en danger en dissimulant les cendres des victimes du nazisme.

Olga Suchá (mère)

Olga Suchá vivait également au crématorium, et a été témoin des atrocités perpétuées par les Nazis. Soutenant les actions de son mari et de son fils, elle démontre avoir le même courage que le reste de la famille. Persécutée à son tour sous le régime communiste, elle fut emprisonnée 4 ans.

František Suchý (fils)

František Suchý fils, né le 17 avril 1927 à Prague, grandit au cœur des horreurs de la guerre et de l’oppression. À 16 ans, il est témoin des atrocités nazies, assistant à la crémation des corps des résistants tchèques et des déportés exécutés dans les camps de concentration de Hradištko. Il aide son père à établir les registres des cendres des déportés incinérés. En 1948, il s’engage dans la lutte contre le régime communiste et la répression politique. Arrêté en 1952, suite à de violents interrogatoires, il révèle l’emplacement d’armes et de documents cachés chez lui, ce qui entraîne l’arrestation de toute sa famille. Il est condamné à 25 ans de prison.

Héritage
et reconnaissance​

František Suchý (père) meurt en 1984, mais son courage continue d’inspirer la mémoire collective tchèque. Son fils, František Suchý fils, s’éteint à 91 ans le 7 juin 2018. Ensemble, père et fils ont œuvré toute leur vie pour préserver les restes de plus de 2 000 victimes des régimes nazi et communiste, risquant leur vie pour que ces victimes ne soient jamais oubliées.

Aujourd’hui, un parc porte leur nom à Prague, entre les rues Nad Olšinami, Nad Primaskou et Za Strašnickou vozovnou, en hommage à leur bravoure et leur engagement à préserver la mémoire des victimes des régimes totalitaires du XXe siècle.

En 2011, František Suchý fils reçoit l’Ordre de Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, en reconnaissance de son engagement en faveur de la démocratie, de l’humanité et des droits de l’homme. En 2017, il est honoré par le Prix Mémoire des Nations pour son courage et son dévouement dans la préservation de la vérité historique.

Malgré les efforts pour restituer les cendres des victimes à leurs familles, 85 urnes de diverses nationalités n’ont jamais pu être rendues aux familles. Ces urnes se trouvent aujourd’hui au Mémorial du Crématorium de Strašnice, à Prague.
